Solid

Quality assessment

A BRAND, but an unusually substantial one: AACo owns the stations, the genetics and the feedlots, so unlike a packer label there is a real herd behind the name and the Japanese sire lines are documented rather than implied. The honest qualification is that Westholme is an F1 CROSS, not fullblood wagyu, and 'nature-led' terroir language does most of the marketing work; the grazing claims are published and specific but not third-party verified.

Scale
Industrial — AACo is one of the largest cattle operations in the world.
Feed & inputs
PUBLISHED AND SPECIFIC — native Mitchell/Flinders grass grazing followed by company feedlot finishing.
Animal welfare
Grazing in family groups and rangeland husbandry are published; no third-party welfare certification located.
Environmental
Grassland health monitoring by foot, helicopter and satellite is published and specific; no certification located.
Transparency
HIGH on genetics, breed programme and supply chain structure; the individual station supplying a given cut is not identified.

Caveats

F1 CROSSBRED, not fullblood — a venue printing 'Westholme wagyu' is naming a real programme, but 'wagyu' here is a crossbreed. No registry row — a non-match. Named by Scotch 80 Prime.

Australian wagyu brand of the Australian Agricultural Company (AACo). An F1 cross of Fullblood or Purebred wagyu sires over the company's own Mitchell female line, bred and grazed across a network of company stations on the Mitchell Grass Downs before finishing in company feedlots.
