Solid

Quality assessment

A real 5th-generation single-family farm (Revier family, homesteaded Renville County 1867) that raises Black Angus and — unusually — BYPASSES the commodity beef market to sell its own branded beef direct. Raising, branding and selling from one named family operation is meaningful traceability. It falls short of exemplary because it is a ~10,000-head-capacity grain-finishing operation with no third-party welfare, organic, or grassfed certification located; 'natural' and 'sustainable' are the farm's own words.

Scale
Mid-large single operation — capacity ~10,000 Black Angus at Olivia at any one time.
Feed & inputs
Grain-finished Minnesota corn-belt program; 'natural' claim is unverified by any registry.
Animal welfare
No third-party certification located.
Environmental
Farm asserts economic, environmental and socially responsible practices; no independent verification located.
Transparency
Medium-high on identity (named family, named town, named county, 150-year history), low on practice verification.

Caveats

Barry's Downtown Prime's 'Revier Cattle Co., Olivia MN' is one of the few menu lines in our graph that names a real single family farm and its actual town. Credit it as a genuine farm-level claim — but the 'natural/sustainable' language is self-asserted, not certified. OWNERSHIP CAUTION (2026-08-19): Star Tribune reporting describes years of debt at the Olivia feedlot and a suit alleging the operation's ownership was disguised, with a related family bankruptcy in 2022. Still recorded as family-owned, but the 'family farm' framing on a menu is contested, not clean.

Family-owned cattle operation based in Olivia, Minnesota, raising beef cattle under its own Certified TLC (Total Livestock Care) program; markets itself around economic, environmental, and social responsibility.
