Jamie’s Broadway Grille

Description and review of Jamie’s Broadway Grill, a popular old-school dive bar and grille located on lower Broadway in Sacramento.
A friend and I recently enjoyed a weekday lunch at Jamie’s Broadway Grille. The last time I had been to the establishment was a long, long time ago (pre-1986) when it was Shanley’s Bar & Grill.
We arrived at Jamie’s around 1:00 p.m. and secured the last spot in the parking lot. Street parking is also available. The place was hopping with the lunch crowd when we entered the windowless, nondescript building. Within minutes we were shown to a table by the welcoming staff.

A Bit of Background
When Jamie Bunnell bought the business, he essentially kept everything the same, including the annual St. Patrick’s Day Party. I am not sure why I have not patronized the business in the intervening years, but it may well be that the friend I went there with passed away.
Jamie’s is popular with locals, as well as followers of the Guy Fieri Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. The business was featured on the Food Network show in 2009. The year prior to that the Sacramento Bee named Jamie’s as having the “best clam chowder” in town. The clam chowder is still on the menu.
Chef/Owner Jamie Bunnell passed away in 2017. To the best of my knowledge, his widow and family/employees continue to run the business.
Menu
Be sure to check out the daily specials board before you order! The everyday menu consists of appetizers, sandwiches, soups, and salads.
For lunch that day my friend ordered the Hot Turkey (fresh roasted turkey served open face with mashed potatoes, gravy, and cranberry sauce) ($18.95) as she was going to be traveling and miss the Thanksgiving holiday at home.
I knew what I was going to order when the two of us decided on lunch at Jamie’s. My choice was the Garlic Steak Sandwich (small portion) (filet mignon served on garlic roll with choice of side) ($17.95), as I remembered enjoying it way back when.
Review
My friend enjoyed her Hot Turkey, and was glad to have leftovers to take home. For my part, I was happy that I ordered the ½ portion of the Garlic Steak Sandwich. It normally includes “twin” steak sandwiches, and the one sandwich left me comfortably full.
I can report that my steak sandwich was both tender and garlicky, and did not disappoint, although I venture to say that the portion was smaller than in years past. While I do not order French fries often, my side of crispy fries were the best I have had in quite some time.
To Sum Up
To sum up, this long-time hole in-the-wall endures at it has a casual and comfortable ambiance, friendly staff, and tasty food – a winning combination.

We hold 108 venues in Sacramento, CA and could score 19 of them. This one is not among them, so it has no position — not a low one.
There is no score breakdown to show: nothing we read about this venue earned points in any of the four categories, so a bar chart of zeroes would look like a verdict on the kitchen rather than on what it publishes. What we did read is below.
v1.7.4 0.0/100 = sourcing 0.0/50 (named-farm 0 distinct, named-region 0 distinct, attribute 0 distinct, buzzword 0 distinct) + farm partners 0.0/20 (none scored) + registry 0.0/12 (none listed) + press 0.0/18 (capped at 35% of the 0.0-point evidence base).
Buzzwords only. This venue uses sourcing language ("farm-fresh", "locally sourced") but names no farms, regions, or verifiable attributes.
