Bison Witches Celebrates 30 Years on Fourth Avenue
Matt Sterner
•Jan 6, 2025•1 min read
The same year the film “Clueless” made its debut alongside “Gangsta’s Paradise” by Coolio and TLC’s “Waterfalls,” Bison Witches Bar and Deli opened its doors at 326 N. Fourth Ave. In 1995, the restaurant’s jumbo bread bowls and sandwiches hit the local scene while Brad Pitt reeled in People Magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive” mention.

What a year!
Now, the Fourth Avenue sandwich shop is ready to celebrate its 30th anniversary on Tuesday, January 7.
Throughout the day, the Bison Witches crew will be offering $5 draft beers, $3 seltzers, and $1 Jell-O shots. Also, they’ll take an additional 30% off your entire bill!

“Thank you to our loyal customers for the last 30 years,” the team shared. “Cheers to 30 more!”
With over 20 made-to-order sandwich options, Bison Witches’ menu is a good one to have in your late-night arsenal — one of the few local restaurants serving food after 10 p.m.
Also, there’s a daily Happy Hour from 3 – 7 p.m.
The Tucson location was the first Bison Witches to open in the mid-90s. At one point in time, the restaurant expanded up to Tempe on Mill Avenue but that location has since closed.
However, if you’re up for a road trip, there are still two other Bison Witches locations in Lincoln, Nebraska, and Norman, Oklahoma.
Bison Witches is located at 326 N. Fourth Ave. For more information, visit bisonwitchestucson.com and follow Bison Witches on Instagram.

More about Matt
At a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.
He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.
If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.

[A new Chihuahuan-style restaurant and tortilla factory is opening in Tucson! @Tortillaschiwas debuts Thursday at 914 N. Grande Ave. in Barrio Hollywood, inside the former Grande Tortilla Factory. Phoenix restaurateurs Armando Hernandez and chef Nadia Holguin, a married couple originally from Chihuahua, Mexico, are behind the project. The James Beard-nominated duo will bring a roughly 15-item menu featuring dishes from their Phoenix restaurants, including Cocina Chiwas and Espiritu Cocktails + Comida. Tortillas Chiwas will initially be open Thursdays through Saturdays from 5–10 p.m. with just 38 seats. Reservations are available on OpenTable. The team also plans to mill nixtamal on-site for hand-pressed tortillas, continuing the building’s long tortilla-making history. [“Indian food represents many different regions and cooking styles, featuring far more than the curries that it is popularly known for — though those are certainly found in abundance at Tucson’s Indian restaurants. For religious reasons, beef and pork are not common in the Indian diet, but carnivores can enjoy plenty of chicken, lamb, and seafood dishes. Most Indian restaurants have large sections of their menus devoted to vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free dishes, too. Kitchens are almost always accommodating about adjusting spice levels but as a rule of thumb, the hottest dishes are the vindaloos, while the mildest are the kormas and biriyanis.” — @ediebjarolim Find @ediebjarolim’s guide on Tucsonfoodie.com](https://www.instagram.com/p/DccjokhG0ag/)

Menu as captured Aug 30, 2026 · source ↗
We hold 238 venues in Tucson, AZ and could score 32 of them. This one is not among them, so it has no position — not a low one.
There is no score breakdown to show: nothing we read about this venue earned points in any of the four categories, so a bar chart of zeroes would look like a verdict on the kitchen rather than on what it publishes. What we did read is below.
v1.7.4 0.0/100 = sourcing 0.0/50 (named-farm 0 distinct, named-region 0 distinct, attribute 0 distinct, buzzword 0 distinct) + farm partners 0.0/20 (none scored) + registry 0.0/12 (none listed) + press 0.0/18 (capped at 35% of the 0.0-point evidence base).
Buzzwords only. This venue uses sourcing language ("farm-fresh", "locally sourced") but names no farms, regions, or verifiable attributes.
