Dudley Market (Conner Mitchell)
Quality assessment
Caveats
MAJOR SOURCING-INTEGRITY FLAG, not a routine verified supplier. Conner Mitchell (owner of Dudley Market, Venice) is a working fisherman who operated a commercial fishing vessel supplying his own restaurant and 'other L.A. restaurants' (LA Times). CDFW/LA City Attorney/Santa Barbara+LA County DA civil enforcement (settled through 2026) found that in 2020-2021 Dudley Market and Mitchell's fishing operations repeatedly violated CA/federal commercial fishing law (unlicensed harvesting, fishing in marine protected areas, unreported catches) WHILE marketing the seafood as 'traceable, sustainable and lawfully sourced.' Court order now requires Dudley Market to post a public false-advertising disclaimer, which is live on the venue's own homepage as of this research date. Mitchell claims compliance since 2021 but this is self-reported and not independently audited by this worker. verification_status is set to 'claimed' (not 'verified') deliberately: the SUPPLY RELATIONSHIP to Little Fish Melrose Hill (opened ~Dec 2025, well after the violation period) is plausible and press-reported, but any 'sustainable/traceable/responsibly-caught' claim resting on this specific supplier carries a documented, adjudicated history of exactly that kind of false claim. See dedicated verdict file food-intelligence/sourcing/verdicts/2026-08-23-dudley-market-sourcing-claims.json for the full claim-level analysis.
