Quality assessment

The reference case for single-farm provenance in California produce. A 45-acre plot opened by Junzo and Hatsuyo Chino at the close of WWII, now in its third generation, that for seven decades has sold ONLY produce the family grew on the family farm — and does not ship. That last fact is the verification: if you did not buy it at the shop in Rancho Santa Fe, it is not Chino produce. They grow hundreds of varieties a year selected for flavour. Alice Waters put the farm on the culinary map from Chez Panisse. Single farm, single site, zero supply-chain hops.

Caveats

NO ORGANIC CERTIFICATION LOCATED — one secondary source describes the produce as 'organic' but nothing supports a certification; the Chinos are known for choosing not to certify. Do not credit organic. LOGISTICS FLAG: because the farm does not ship, a Las Vegas venue claiming Chino produce must be physically collecting it in Rancho Santa Fe — a claim worth challenging directly. Not yet linked to a venue row.

Family vegetable farm in Rancho Santa Fe, California (also known as Chino Farm / Chino Nojo), founded in the early 1920s by Japanese immigrant Junzo Chino and now run by his descendants including Tom, Frank, Fred, and Kay Chino. Grows sweet corn, strawberries, tomatoes and hundreds of other fruit and vegetable varieties; historically supplied chefs such as Alice Waters.
